The Giostra della Quintana is a knightly tournament and a historical costume show that takes place in Foligno. Generally the challenge is held on Saturday in June, with a night edition, and the revenge of Sunday in September with an afternoon edition.
The name of Quintana derives from the name of the fifth street of the Roman camp, in which the training of soldiers who, armed with lances, threw themselves against a puppet trying to put the ring suspended from a puppet’s hand. then the origins of the tournament, but the first documented evidence of the performance of Quintana as a knightly tournament linked to a party, dates back to 1448. Since then, in Foligno, the Quintana has been held every year uninterrupted until today, with the exclusion of an interruption of about a century until 1946, the year in which it was restored in its current form.
